Competition Rules
WASPS FOOTBALL Competition Rules
Thank you for entering the WASPS Mixed Football Competition for this school year. Please read through these rules carefully as there are some changes to last season and are highlighted in yellow.
Teams will be 9-a-side and can include boys and girls.
Full rules apply including offside.
All teams both home and away must be accompanied by a teacher, matches should be refereed by a member of staff employed by either school (either a teacher or support staff or from another school in the authority as schools have often used the experience of other teachers) or a FA qualified referee. (If schools are using a qualified referee from outside the school please make your opposition aware of this.)
Parents are encouraged to help coach teams and are appreciated in this role but cannot have full responsibility for the conduct and safety of the children or refereeing.
Matches are to be 15 or 20 minutes each way (as agreed by both staff in charge because of other conditions or weather)
Matches should only be cancelled by home teams except in extreme circumstances. It is expected that the home member of staff will ensure the safety of the players.
Substitutes are once again roll-on, roll-off and a size 4 football should be used.
It is acceptable for schools to arrange to play two matches in one night as a round robin type of event, involving three schools playing each other if this helps to cut down travelling issues
The following rules also apply in all matches. Please make sure than any external coaches and anyone referring matches is aware of these rules.
Deliberate Header Restart:
Deliberately heading the ball is an offence punishable by an indirect free kick
The indirect free kick is taken at the point where the ball was deliberately headed, except:
Where a player deliberately heads the ball within their own penalty area, the referee will stop the game and restart with an indirect free kick to the opposition from the nearest side line of the penalty area where the offence took place
Touchline Restart:
Instead of a throw-in, a pass-in / dribble-in is awarded
The kicker that takes the pass-in / dribble-in may touch the ball again before it is touched by another player
At the moment of delivering the ball:
The ball must be stationary on the touchline at the point where it left the pitch; only the kicker may be off the pitch
All opponents must stand at least 5 yards from the point on the touchline where the pass-in or /dribble-in is to be taken from
A goal cannot be scored directly from a pass-in
The ball is in play when it is kicked and clearly moves
Teams may use the following rule if it is agreed by both schools before the game starts.
If the goal difference between the teams reaches 4, then the losing team adds a player on the pitch.
If the goal difference reaches 6 then the losing team adds a second extra player or the winning team takes a player off.
If the goal difference falls below 6 then the losing team takes one extra player off or the winning team adds a player
If the goal difference falls below 4 the losing team takes one extra player off, so the teams have equal numbers again.
If the goal difference reaches 9 then the game ends.
If two schools cannot agree a date for a match, then both schools forfeit that match and neither will be awarded any points. Schools should play two matches before Christmas or they may be removed from the leagues
